Tips For Teen Skin

Acne is caused by an immune system response (inflammation) to bacteria (proprionobacterium acne-P. acne) that overgrows on facial skin. This same bacteria is found on everyone’s skin. The inflammatory response only happens if numbers of bacteria reach a tipping point that stimulates an immune system response. Acne is not considered a disease as it’s caused by an immune system response to bacteria normally present on human skin.

Contributors to Acne: Gluten, Dairy and Sugar.  In some cases red meat.

It is important to consult with your esthetician or dermatologist to make sure that you are using the correct products in the right way and getting regular professional treatments for your skin conditions.  Some cases of advanced acne will require medication, so consulting a professional early on will help diagnose your skin condition and avoid prolonged breakouts and potential scarring.

    Skin care tips:
    • Skip the cleanser in the morning! Try witch hazel instead
    • Wash off the day: Use cleanser every night!
    • Use a liquid (gentle) exfoliant 3 times a week
    • Use a clay mask 2 - 3 times a week
    • Use a moisturizer and SPF daily
    • Seek a professional for facials every 4 - 6 weeks
    • Drink 8 (8 ounce) glasses of water a day
    • Eat fruits and veggies: The darker the fruit/veggie the better
    • Change your pillowcase every 2 - 3 days
    • Sleep with your hair off of your face

The three steps for a teen skincare routine are: Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing.  Do not be afraid of facial oils... they can be great for acneic skin as oil dissolves oil. However, too much oil can be dehydrating, so be careful not to overdo it. Focus on the evening routine and be consistent. Do not skip a day.

Avoid skincare products with these ingredients: Parabens, Oxybenzone and Triclocan.

** Eating apples will calm the body's system by reducing the viral and bacterial loads that create inflammation. There are phytochemicals in apples that feed the neurons and increase electrical activity. They also help with depression, body odor, digestive issues, along with many other conditions.  Most importantly they clean our  lymphatic system along with repairing damaged skin.
